Comparison

Ripples vs DataFast

DataFast and Ripples are aimed at the same person and answer the same first question: which traffic turned into paying customers. DataFast got there first and has the larger audience. Three things differ. DataFast integrates Meta Ads and not Google Ads, it reports LTV and ROAS rather than a payback period, and it has no free tier, only a 14-day trial. Pick DataFast if you buy on Meta and want the more established product. Pick Ripples if you buy on Google Ads, or if retention by channel is the number you are missing.

Choose Ripples if

  • You spend on Google Ads and want that spend joined to real revenue
  • You want retention cohorts split by acquisition channel
  • You are pre-revenue and a 14-day trial is not long enough to see payback

Choose DataFast if

  • Meta Ads is where your acquisition budget goes
  • You want the product with the longer track record and larger community
  • You like their AI chat interface for asking questions of your data

The real difference

ROAS on day one is not the same as paying back.

DataFast reports return on ad spend and lifetime value, which is more than almost any traffic tool does and is genuinely useful. Both numbers are measured from the click.

The number a bootstrapper needs before scaling spend is a different one: how long until this channel has actually returned what it cost, given that some of those customers cancel in month two. A channel with a great day-one ROAS and 60% churn by month three has not paid back anything. That is a retention question wearing a marketing hat, and it needs cohorts split by the channel that brought each customer.

Ripples computes payback per channel from exactly that join, and shows the retention curve underneath it. The other structural difference is simpler: if your spend goes to Google Ads rather than Meta, DataFast has no view of it at all.

Being straight with you

Pick DataFast instead if any of this is you.

We would rather you found out here than after installing.

You buy on Meta

DataFast integrates Meta Ads and we do not. If Facebook and Instagram are where your budget goes, that is the whole decision and you should stop reading here.

You want the more proven product

DataFast has been shipping longer, has far more users, and has a community around it. We are newer and smaller, and pretending otherwise would be silly.

You want to chat with your data

Their AI chat interface is a real feature that people like. Ripples writes you a plain-language weekly brief instead, which is a different bet.

There is a longer list of things Ripples deliberately does not do on what we don't do.

Questions

Ripples and DataFast, asked plainly.

Does DataFast support Google Ads?
Not at the time of writing. DataFast integrates Meta Ads for spend and ROAS. If Google Ads is where your acquisition budget goes, that spend has to be reconciled by hand.
Does DataFast have a free plan?
No. DataFast runs a 14-day trial and then starts at $9 a month. Ripples is free until your project reaches $1K MRR, which matters if you are pre-revenue and payback takes weeks to become visible.
What is the best DataFast alternative?
Ripples if you buy on Google Ads or need retention by channel. Seline or Sleek if you want a similar revenue-first tool at a similar price. PostHog if you want session replay and feature flags alongside, and are willing to configure more.
Can Ripples import my DataFast history?
No. Ripples starts collecting when you install it. Running both for a few weeks is the usual way people compare them.
